The Section of Nephrology at Yale School of Medicine has extensive programs in patient care, research, and education, committed to excellence in becoming national and international leaders in academic nephrology. It hosts two NIH-funded kidney disease research centers of excellence, leading internationally in polycystic kidney disease (PKD) and acute kidney injury.

学术历史

In 1922, Dr. John Peters founded the metabolism section at Yale, whose name became synonymous with nephrology research and education. He was a pioneer in applying quantitative clinical chemistry to clinical medicine. Nearly a century later, the section thrives and has trained many nephrology leaders globally. The prestigious Peters-named lecture is held annually at the American Society of Nephrology meeting.

Research covers acute kidney injury and repair mechanisms, molecular genetics of polycystic kidney disease and other cilia-related disorders, renal tubular electrolyte transport and acid-base regulation, renal epithelial cell biology and morphogenesis, and acute kidney injury biomarkers. It hosts the George M. O'Brien Kidney Center and the Yale PKD Center, both NIH-funded, plus the Clinical and Translational Research Accelerator.
