The Department of Art History and Theory at the School of Humanities, Central Academy of Fine Arts, is a pioneer in higher education for Chinese art history and theory. 学术历史

The art history and theory department at CAFA was established in the 1950s by scholars including Wang Xun and Jin Weinuo, making it the first institution in China to build a higher education system for art history and theory. Scholars such as Xue Yongnian and Shao Yan have produced important works on landscape painting history. CAFA's humanities disciplines have developed a complete bachelor's-master's-doctoral training system in art historical methodology, Chinese painting history, and calligraphy and painting authentication, establishing the academy as a scholarly stronghold in Chinese art historiography.
