Columbia University - Division of Nephrology
États-Unis · 博士
The Division of Nephrology at Columbia University is internationally leading in Precision Nephrology, glomerular diseases, and renal molecular genetics. Faculty publish in top journals including Nature, Science, Cell, and JCI.
学术历史
Under the leadership of Qais Al-Awqati (1976-2003, 2008-2013) and Donald Landry (2003-2008), the division historically excelled in bench and translational research. Renal scientists have collaborated in shared laboratories and clinical spaces for over a decade, publishing in Nature, Science, Cell, Molecular Cell, Developmental Cell, and JCI.
当前状态
Faculty conduct laboratory and patient-oriented research, many with R01 funding. The division has distinctive strengths in Precision Nephrology, the Center for Glomerular Diseases, the Transplant Center, and the O'Brien Urology Center. It collaborates with Biomedical Informatics, Translational Immunology, Pathology, Genetics and Development, Systems Biology, and other departments.

关键人物
Krzysztof Kiryluk
Chief, Division of Nephrology, Professor
Researches genetics of immune-mediated kidney diseases, focusing on IgA nephropathy. Completed two large genome-wide association studies involving 20,000+ individuals, published in Nat Genet (2011, 2014).
Ali Gharavi
Professor
The Gharavi Lab focuses on molecular genetics of kidney diseases, identifying key genes in IgA nephropathy and congenital kidney defects. Leads a Center for Precision Medicine, collaborating with CureGN and All of Us.
Jonathan Barasch
Professor
The Barasch Lab explores kidney growth and damage mechanisms, purified NGAL and revealed its role as an iron chelator for kidney injury, leading to the first clinically used kidney injury biomarker.
标志性成果
- NGAL - first clinically used kidney injury biomarker (Barasch Lab)
- IgA nephropathy genome-wide association studies (Nat Genet 2011, 2014)
