The Department of Nephrology at the First Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University was founded in 1963. It is a national key discipline, national key clinical specialty, one of the founding institutions of Chinese nephrology, and the founding institution of the Chinese Journal of Nephrology. It is a renowned kidney disease diagnosis, treatment, and research center domestically and internationally.

学术历史

Founded in 1963, it is one of the founding institutions of Chinese nephrology. Ranked first in the national key clinical specialty evaluation, second in the 2019 Peking University national best discipline evaluation, and first in the South China best specialty rankings. Professor Yu Xueqing served as Chair of the Chinese Society of Nephrology, President of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association Nephrology Branch, and President of the International Society for Peritoneal Dialysis.

The department has 13 senior and 7 associate senior titles, with 11 doctoral supervisors. The academic team includes State Council Discipline Appraisal Group members, NSFC Distinguished Young Scholars, and Pearl River Scholars. During the 13th Five-Year Plan, it undertook 60+ research projects including 2 national key R&D programs and 20+ NSFC grants, published 110+ SCI papers in Nature Genetics, Science Translational Medicine, and Nature Communications, and won the National Science and Technology Progress Award (2nd class).
