The Academy of Fine Arts at Shanghai University traces its origins to the Shanghai Municipal Art College, founded in 1960, which was incorporated into Shanghai University in 1983. In 2016, it was renamed the Shanghai Academy of Fine Arts. As an international metropolis, Shanghai boasts a rich contemporary art ecosystem—including the Shanghai Biennale, the West Bund Art District, and others—providing a unique context for contemporary ink research. Artists such as Feng Yuan have served as president of the Shanghai Academy of Fine Arts, advancing the institution's development in contemporary art education.
